Leaking at the well pipe

We recently noticed wetness at the top of our artesian well pipe. We thought it was the little pipe (overflow pipe) but when we dug around the big pipe we see that there is water coming out from there. What could this be?

Do you have a pitless adaptor? How deep did you dig to find this water?

I don't know what a pitless adaptor is. We dug about 4-6 inches deep. The water kept coming as we emptied it would fill right up.

If your in snow country, the pitless adaptor is the pipe that sticks up in the yard. The connection to the house is down several feet below the frost line. If you have a pitless, I assume this is the source of the leak.
