deep well pump kicks in every minute
Hello. I'm Danny. I have a well about 125 ft deep, 100 ft of buried pipe to pumphouse and an 80 gal pressure tank (bladder). My problem is that the pump kicks in at 50 lbs and shuts off at 30 lbs, however, this happens every minute and a half, contiinually, even though I am not using any water. At 50 lbs, I shut off the "out" valve from the tank and I still loose pressure to 30 lbs then the pump kicks in again. Since there is no water going out, I'm concluding that I have a leak in the pipe between the pump and the tank? Or can it be something else? Is there a better way to troubleshoot? Thanks!

I'm assuming that when you say "deep well pump", that your describing an above ground pump that has two lines from well to pump. If so, your problem is most likely a bad footvalve, which is located on the end of the suction line in the well. Another possibility is a hole in the piping down in the well. Either way, you'll need to pull the pipe out.
First, take a close look at the exposed piping for any leaks. If you don't find anything, then it's in the well.

I have found and solved the problem. The pump is submersible 125 ft down a well. The symptom was that I was loosing pressure and the pump would go on every minute or so. Since I was loosing pressure only from the tank back to the well, it came down to the CHECK VALVE located right by my tank. I changed it and no more pressure loss. I was loosing pressure back to the well because the check valve was not working. Thanks very much for the replies. Danny
