Well pump starts late

About one week ago I noticed that my water flow would drop off about 50% and then, in about one to two seconds, return to normal. It feels like the pump should start sooner to maintain even flow. Most noticeable when in the shower. No other water problems. I have a residential well, pump and pressure tank. Pump and pressure tank between 5 and 10 yrs old.

Any thoughts?

What pressure does the pump turn off and on at?

The precharge pressure in the pressure tank and the pump cutin pressure is too close together.
Drain your bladder tank completely and check the pressure. It should be 2 psi less than the pump cutin pressure (i.e. id the pump cuts in at 30 psi, the tank should have 28 psi of air in it).
This will allow the pump to start before the tank is empty, but still give you the drawdown necessary for a proper pump runtime.

Last night we lost our water supply. This is our 1st year in the house (3 years old). We have a well, but I'm not sure where to begin troubleshooting this. I reset the well power breaker, the pressure tank is empty. I am not sure when the water stopped pumping. Any ideas?Read More

Water seeping into sump pit BELOW the drain pipe?

I was looking at my sump pump earlier as it was running frequently (we've had a lot of snow/rain in the past couple of days) to make sure everything was ok. I noticed that I had a steady stream of water trickling down the side of the sump pit just below the drain pipe. I felt along the underside of the pipe and noticed a small crevice between the pipe and the egde of the hole. Now, everything seems to operating ok - water is collecting into my sump pit, and the pump is pumping it out. But I didn't know if this was ok to have most of the drain water coming from a crevice below the pipe as opposed to the pipe itself. It doesn't seem like the crevice is a torn or cracked section; it just feels like the pipe isn't quite large enough to fill up the pipe on that underside (it's a small crevice, not very large). Is this a big problem that warrants a plumper's call, or should it be fine as-is? I'm also wondering if more water is coming into my pit that should be with it like this, or if the same amount water would just come out the pipe instead if the crevice was completely closed off.
