I have a 3/4 x 3/4 x 1/2 T connection that is leaking ever so slightly at the sweated joint. What is the recommended proceedure for repairing the leak? How do you get all the water out of the pipe so it can be desoldered or is it best to cut out the bad section and replace with new? How do you keep water / steam from coming through the exisiting line as you are trying to sweat the new fitting on?

Turn off the main water valve.
Open all the taps in the house especially the ones lower than the leaking joint. When all the water drains out of the pipes you can try and unsweat, clean and resolder the joint. Or you can cut it out and replace it.
