I just started messing with well in back corner of house... i will give you the run down.. The house was built in the 50s... has a vertical pump on top of well with about 70ft of pvc looking pipe going down...( there are two pipes) .. Both pips meet at a filter of some sort... The motor is a Universal 1/2 model#112... (pretty old looking) had a black and white wire from the motor that i connected to a plug.. . the motor hums but does nothing else.. Looks like the well is about 80feet or so down with water at 15feet from the top.. there is also a sleeve on the inside of the well.. and its looks like its about 5 or 6 inches wide... New pump-- what hp and stype pump should i get.. Old pump.... can the old pumps just freeze up , then be broken free...? Is there a chance this well could be ok to drink ? i am just not familiar with wells and the depth it takes for drinking? I am really just looking for some irragation on my little yard.. Sorry so long...

I have a well and one of my lavatory sinks emits an odor of sulfur, like rotten eggs when the water runs. This doesn't happen on any other of my sinks. I have a water conditioning system which includes an iron filter, or whatever its called, and a softener. Can anyone help?
