Well pump

Well pump
Need to know if there is anything internal in a pump that will cause it not to build pressure and shut off. After I got the pump primed and running it would not shut off. Sorry I do not have a pressure guage on it so I do not know what the pressure is. However what I do know is that it seems to hold the prime after I shut the power off and leave it over night. I also do not believe it is the pressure switch because I can run a hose from the city water to the pump and the pressure from the city will cause the pump to shut on and off. Any suggestions? Thanks

Shallow well pumps have a nozzle and venturi tube assembly inside them. This is the "jet" part of a jet pump.
If this nozzle (which has a hole in it about 3/16" diameter) gets plugged up, the pump will not build pressure. You may need to clean this nozzle.
Another cause of low pressure is that the water level in the well is too low. Maybe you'll be able to check this visually.
