new water softener and ?

my water softner and something else is bad "2 tank" i went to lowes and they said that all i would need is the softener because they are made "together now" is there a truth to this. I have a lot of iron in our water. please help and the best advice. i see there are some on ebay are they any good ones on ebay?

A water softener and an iron filter are two different items.
Try a real plumbing store if you want some good advice.

There is no truth to that at all. The media for removing iron and the media for softening water is two completely separate things.

The softener will remove a small amount of iron but the softening capabilities are greatly diminished as time goes on...

Well pump wiring problem?

I have a 3/4 hp deep well pump (220 volt - 2 wire, 6 mo old) that's drawing about 20 amps (should be 9). The pump runs for a while, but kicks out on overload. At first I thought there might be sand in the pump, but the flow and pressure are correct. I did check the wiring and noticed that line to earth ground had a resistance of 7.5 kohm, which I assume should be an open circuit. Is it possible that the insulation on the wire is breaking down? Any other ideas? Thanks!

I just started getting this knocking through my basement wall everytime the artesian well pump shuts off. Hot or cold does not matter. It does this every time the pump shuts off. Went to the well cap with faucets running and you cant really hear a knock. The knock knock is very pronounced in basement where the line comes through the wall. I never had this problem before. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Any more info needed, i will happily supply.
