what is failing?

What could be failing here?

The pressure on the well's pressure tank runs up to about 50psi then cuts out. But when it is being used it never restarts the pump.

How do I know what the problem is? I also cant get it to restart all the time be lifting the lever.

What are the symptoms of a pressure switch failing?

What are the symptoms of a pressure tank failing?

They are only about a year old but it is pretty damp where they are.

Thanks
Mike

If you can't get it start by manually triggering the pressure switch then my first thought is the switch contacts is going bad.

If I unscrew the cover and use a match stick to push the contacts forward and hold it till it is just over 30psi then it will stay on. But when the psi falls it wont cut back on.

It sounds to me that you have a low water cuut off pressure switch that is clogged. Does it have a lever on the side of it? If not i'll bet its just a regular switch that is clogged. You will have to drain the system down, unwire the switch, unthread it, and unclogg the nipple or the pressure switch fittings.

yes it has the lever, but it wont let me turn it on anymore. Like I said, I can turn it on by manually pushing the contacts.

Thanks... I thought maybe I should try cleaning it,

The little lever on the side should do the same thing as pushing it with a stick. It sounds like the switch might going bad mechanically.

Thanks all....

I replaced the switch and it works now!

Tomorrow I need to adjust the tank's pressure. It is reading 21psi and it is supposed to be at 28psi (I have to find the bicycle pump).

We still have to go out and walk the line draining it every night but at least I can stop living in the well house LOL. The line burst underground and I have a temp above ground line installed.
