water softener or reverse osmosis ?

Which should I use for hard water? I'm so confused.

You need a water softener to remove the calcium and magnesium (if any) from your water to make it 'soft'.

Then if you want, you can add an RO system. If you do an RO system without the water softener, the RO membrane plugs very quickly, which is costly.

RO is usually only used for water intended for consumption. For general use, RO is massive overkill, not to mention, expensive.
