Advise please: We have a new house in central NJ. It has a sump w/ sealed cover due to radon. The radon piping draws air out of the sump pit, and post-mitigation reading ws 0.2. Now I want to put in a backup sump pump, and the radon mitigation company recommends I divert the radon piping directly to a sub-slab position. This is because I want to be able to access the sump pit and its associated contents periodically, to perform maintenance and checks on the equipment I'll have there. 1. He states that venting directly from the slab is superior to venting from the sump pit anyway - any thoughts? I suspect the basement slab was poured over a gravel base, so sub-slab ventialtion should be at least as good, right?

I have a home situated such that rain water moves from one side of the lot where the ground is higher to the other side of the home. A significant potion of rain water will migrate through the crawl space. To control the moisture level in the crawl space, I had a drain ditch dug around the inside of the foundation wall and terminate at the low point where a crock was installed with a sump pump. Vapor barrier was placed over the dirt also. The first meaningful rain after this was done the crock floated up and thus the sump pump was no longer submerged and the crawl filled with water once again. To resolve this I drill a number of one inch holes in the bottom of the crock so that if any water did get under the crock it would weep into it and not cause it to float. That worked until this weekend when we got hit with substantial rain. Again the crock floated up and once it was up it tilted and became jammed in the hole and could not float back down as the water was pump out. I should note that the electricity was off for a number of hours so the pump could not run. Why is this crock floating and not simply filling with water - whether the pump is running or not? Any help is greatly appreciated.
