Well pump does not stop/pump

Goulds pump was pumping tons of water a week ago, but when shut off, would start/stop every 3 or so minutes, so figured it needed a new air pressure tank, Got a new one, checked pressure before installing, and it was 28psi. Cut in at pressure switch is 30, cut out is 50.

For the sake of it, I primed the pump by pouring water down the steel pipe on top which holds the air tank, then started the pump, and it just hums. Does not stop, so I shut it off. Man, before the new air tank, I was getting a deluge of water, so well is not dry. Any ideas, people?

Thanks,
Joe

Not enough info.
What size tank did you buy?

When you say the pump "just hums" are you saying that it doesn't run?

Neeed more water to prime it. The intake pipe needs to be full. The pump can't pump air.

need to pour water in the top of that pump until the water fills to the top and stays there. if it never fills to the top with water you might have a check valve hanging open somewhere in that suction pipe. by humming i hope you dont mean that the motor shaft is not spinning and motor has just a low hum..

Come Monday you probably need to call a pro to come and look at it. No shame in that.

did you make sure everything to the suction was good and tight? might just be a stopped up jet in the head of the pump not letting it build pressure.
