Septic Tank Maintenance

I have been using a product called Septic Helper 2000 by Krane Products in my septic tank on a monthly routine. I am ready to order more of this porduct or another one for the maintenance program. Does anyone have suggestions as to what to use? Thanks for any assistance.

By most accounts I've read, 'helper products' for septic systems are not necessary or even inadvisable. Anyone else have a thought on this controversy?

I use this:

http://webapp1.drummondamerican.com/...Num=DL02500T12

When I moved into my house 5 years ago the septic failed inspection. I moved in "as is", and started using this. When I had the system pumped, the guy said (from the same company that failed the tank) "the system is working as designed".

It is entirely possible I was being taken for a ride on the inspection, but using 1 QT every 3 months seems to help dissolve the solids. etc.

This stuff is expensive, but I also recently found that the local school system uses it on their septics, and also some treatment plants use it in bulk as well.

Hope that helps.

A new septic tank will need some help to build a bacteria base, but after the tank has been in use for some time, nature should take its course. Maybe use some help after the tank has been pumped or if you put something bad down the tank. Other than that, it is designed to work on its own.

I'll be blunt. Don't add anything to your septic tank. They don't work like you think they would.
I really get a good laugh when I read the information that goes along with all of those products.

I agree with septicguy, dont add anything. I have been putting in septics for over 15 years. The stuff they sell in stores is just THAT, (to sale). Leave it alone it will work fine if it was installed for the needs of the home. just my thoughts....
