We have a private well that is 402 ft. deep. Only real problem with it is iron and the real problem is that it fluctuates depending on rainfall and water usage. If it doesn't rain alot at once or we don't try to wash 3-4 loads of laundry back-to-back it's OK and stays around 1-3ppm, easy to control. If we get 3-4 inches of rain in a day or 2 or we use alot of water that causes the iron to stir up. We have alot of iron pockets on our land and were told that the well was probably drilled through some large pockets and as the static water level changes it probably moves in/out of these pockets causing the fluctuation. We do have a chemical injection system that utilizes one pump/tank with alum for iron removal and another pump/tank with caustic/bleach for PH neutralization and disinfection/iron oxidation. The pumps settingsa are manually controlled and operate on a flow sensor as water is used. One solution would be to use some sort of iron sensing probe in the water line coming from the well and that would control a pulse feeder pump to increase/decrease the alum for the fluctuating as needed. The caustic/bleach setup never changes so it could be left on manual. The other solution would be to have the well inspected with video and possibly have it lined. If it was to be lined all the way to the aquifier (if possible or needed) could this possibly eliminate the iron altogether and eliminate the need for any alum injection? Anybody had similar issues and had a lining done? Thanks in advance. Later!

I have a well and of course I have a pump that gets the water to us. This morning when flushing the toilet the pump did not come on. I went into the basement and could not get the pump to start. The motor felt hot, so I unplugged it. After awhile, I went back to the basement and plugged it back in. In made a horrible noise (not the same noise it makes when running). Does this sound like the pump blew up, and if so, can it be fixed?
