submersible pump in 35" well

I am installing a submersible pump in an old hand dug 60' well that has the old 35 or 36" diameter concrete casing all the way down. I have tested the water quality and it will recover about 6 GPM. What would be the best way to deal with the pump torque at start-up? I think I have all other issued covered.

Thanks, Papaterk

Hi and welcome.

When you set the pump, do not use any thread compound or teflon tape. When the pump starts, it tries to unscrew off the pipe. Just tighten what ever you use real good.
There's not much you can do about the torque of the pump. Just use a high quality drop pipe. Where the pipe comes out of the top of the well, use steel fittings. That will give you a little more safety assurance against it braking or falling.

I am going to assume you are going to use a 1/2hp pump.
You could use sch80 pvc. in ten foot lengths, screwed together.
If you use the black poly pipe, be sure to run a safety line attached to the pump.

Thumbs up submersible pump install

Thanks,

I was hoping I didn't have to build some crazy looking frame or something.
Sch 80 is no problem, and it will be easier. You are right about the pump size. All i am doing is using it for irrigation and to suppliment water level in my pond.

Thanks Eric
