Smile Question of hole in sump discharge line

am going to install a new sump pump...I see in the instructions that is shows to drill a small hole in the discharge pipe...I have not done this to my pass pumps and have not had any problems....just wish there was an easly way to remove and install pumps....

That small hole is to allow air to escape so that the pump doesn't airlock.
I've seen air get trapped above the pump discharge and not be able to pump.
