Submersible pump in surface well?

Hi,

I need to replace my jet pump and I am thinking about replacing it by a submersible pump. My surface well always shows seven to eight feet of water and I would suspend the submersible pump approximately three feet over the bottom of the well. Is there any counter-indication about using a submersible pump in a surface well?

Thanks in advance,

JF

None that I know of.

May want to size the pump a 1/4 - 1/2 horse lower than the surface pump. Submersibles are more efficient and more productive and we don't want to run the well dry.

I try to replace surface pumps with submersible whenever possible in my rental houses. They don't need priming if the well is run dry.
