water pressure issues

system is about 15 yrs old with deep well, diaphram pressure tank and 30-50 switch - Switch and pressure gage and fittings are 3 - 4 years old. Water has a lot of silt and iron - not sure of hardness.

Problem is after some use, the pressure drops momentarly before pump restarts and kicks pressure back up. Pressue gage stays on 50 and doesn't move.

Am told that the drop is whats causing washing machine to sence loss of water pressure and stop during cycle.

Suggestions on keeping pressure more consistant? Thanks

Check the pressure switch settings and air pressure inside the pressure tank. If they are set wrong it can cause the flow & pressure to drop momentarily when the pump cycles on. The first sticky at the top of this page tells you how to set the pressures.

Another possible problem is if the line to the pressure switch may be mostly clogged, causing it to not react fast enough to maintain proper pressure. Since there is no flow through the switch sediment & rust can collect and block the pipe even when the main pipe is clear.
