How to pull up the pitless adapter???

I know this thread is about 6 years old, but any advice on disengaging the pitless adapter out of its dovetail connection?

I have the threaded pipe (with tee on top end). Heard it was next to impossible to pull it out!

Thanks!

I just removed and replaced my pump 3 days ago. I pulled it by hand [it's only 65' deep]. If yours is a very deep well, you WILL need some sort of a crane lifting device. If they were professional enough to put mineral oil or silicon grease on the "O" ring seal on your pitless adapter it should disengage easily. Be sure you release all water pressure and disconnect all electrical power..

If you have limited equipment you can use and engine hoist to seperate the pitless adapter. My pump sits at 274' ideally something that can pull 20' sections of pipe, I used a cable and wench system but could only pull 4' at a time, make something to hold the pipe so you don't lose it down the well. I used 3 pieces of 2x6 bolted together, I then cut about 2's out of the center pieces, as I pulled the pipe my block was around the pipe, so when I reached my limit I placed wedges to hold pipe while I reset my cable. At any rate if you can pull 20'ou will still nedd something to hold the pipe while you unscrew the sections. it time consuming, but in the long run it save me about a thousand dollars. Make sure that you know what size pump and motor is in your well. I bought a 3/4 hp because that is what I was told I needed, However I was able to place new pump head on old motor which was a 1 hp.
