septic tank aerator problem

I have an aerator system on my septic that quit working. It consists of a Leeson electric motor that has an attachment to it that has an intake and exhaust outlet. The motor seemed to be the problem and would just hum without turning. I took it apart and found that the motor works fine but the unit attached to it would not turn (by hand) at first but did free up after lightly tapping with a hammer. When turning, I feel resistence and hear clanging inside like there is something loose inside. I tried to take apart but am having difficulty. There is no markings on the unit to look up for replacement.

I would like to take a picture and put it on here to see if anyone can identify it and lead me to where I can replace the unit. Any help on how I can get a picture out to identify would be greatly appreciated.

Hi and welcome

Do you know the brand name of you system. It may be on the control box or on the tank itself.
Most brands of aerobic type systems have there own type of aerators.
You should be able to get the parts you need from the maker of the system.

It looks like a rotary vane pump. The vanes inside can be replaced but if you don't have a name and model number you don't have much of a chance finding parts. It's probably time to buy a new pump.

Thanks for the info. I did look on the tank itself for any info and only found Hydro-Action out of Beaumont, TX...looked on their website and found nothing that looked like this unit. Also, there was SJE-Rhombus inside the electrical box but I assume they are only the switch manufacturer. Another said it looked like a rotory valve pump which could be repaired but with no manufacturer info, I'm at a loss. Is it possible to use another like unit to connect to the electric motor since it seems to be ok? I also put a call in to the people listed who installed the septic system but think they may be out of business. With the economy the way it is, I have very little money to put into this and need some good suggestions!!

Do you have any specifications or information that would tell you how how much air is needed; pressure, volume/cfm. If you know that it's just a matter of ordering a new pump that can provide the right amount of air. If you don't have any documentation for your system I would contact Hydro-Action and see if they can track down what system you have or at the very least help you decide what pump you need.

Replacement pumps are available but you have to be able to pick the correct one to match up to your motor; mount, rpm, direction of rotation, shaft size. It will be easier, but possibly more expensive, to simply buy it as a complete package.

I know you are trying to save money but don't neglect getting the pump replaced. Your septic system needs it to function and without it your entire septic system may eventually fail which would be a very major expense.

At the tank where you found the Hydro-Action name, there should be a model number.
That number will tell the people at hydro-a what size aerator you need, and will be able to tell you if there is a suitable replacement.
From the looks of the one you have, it looks like an old model or has been changed out in the past.

On the aerobic type system, there is about a 5 day window to get the aerobic fixed before the water turns septic and starts to smell.

i also have an aerator that is not working. mine is a cajun-aire and all phone numbers to the company are non working now.
we had some bad weather come thru and i dont know if this is when it started, but i just noticed the aerator was not running and i have tried resetting all the on/off switches, fuse panel, etc...
i noticed there was a tripped button and when i reset it, the motor runs but trips back off after about 10 seconds. i took the air filter off and will need to replace it and tried retripping the button without the filter but had same result.
ANY help would be appreciated. THANKS!!

Sounds like it might be time to check prices on a new pump.
