sewage basement pump won't start recently

I was doing renos in basement, it was unplugged from outlet by mistake for about a week, then when I plugged back in, it would not run, usually it would turn on when you flushed the toilet, now it doesnt even run, what would cause this from being unplugged? it was running great before, no problems, what do I do? I checked the fuse, the pipes, all looks fine, please help. Thanks

The float may be stuck. Is the water level up? Try garbing the pipe that goes to the pump and give it a shake to see if it starts running. Otherwise something may be jammed in the impeller. You would here the motor humm before the thermal overload kicks the pump off so it dont burn up.

Let us know.

If your getting power to the pump and its not working, I would guess the pump is shot.

The no start

Dont most ejector pumps have an electrical box where you can plug the pump directly to power, bypassing the float switch? Have you determined that you indeed have power to your pump system?
Just some thoughts.

Yes, this ejector pump plugs into the wall just beside it, that is also where the washer and dryer was plugged in, and so when we moved out the washer/dryer, the pump was unplugged from the wall for about a week before I noticed, then when I plugged it back in, and tried to flush the toilet it would not go on, so I plugged it into a different outlet, still nothing, took a good look into it, still had water, but nothing plugging it, no humming, just dead, seems strange when it worked fine right before, and if it was just dried out, wouldnt it work after priming? I am not a plumber, but pretty good with renos, so I just dont get it. Thanks for any help, I will have to replace soon, as the house is being ready to sell, and need it working.

Depending on what type of pump I would say the float switch is bad. They come apart to replace the switch.

But as another poster stated, there should be two cords coming out of the pit. One is the pump and one the switch. Just plug the pump cord in to see if it works.

well after taking another look at it Mike was right the float was stuck, and had a bunch of crap in it, it was a gross job but I pulled it all apart and got this thing to work, after unplugging and removing wads of hair, it worked better then before, I thought I better give it another good look before I go buy another motor, but I guess when the power was off for the week, it must of dried some of the wad up, and after playing with it for days it must of came down and there it was, thanks for your help, this site is great.
