Heavy Sediment Problem

I live in central VA (lots of clay and iron). I have had a sediment problem since 08 when we bought the house. I am sure this is not a new problem and I know that my neighbors around me have similar problems. My whole house filter location is after the pressure tank. When using a six month filter I usually have to replace it no later than one month. This last one only lasted two weeks. I installed a brand new 30 micron pleated filter tonight. If I use anything better it will clog up faster and reduce water pressure. Even after replacing the filter tonight I am still getting dirty water passing through my fixtures.

I have pulled the pump out of the ground (250') within the last two years and shortened the over all length around 30'.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I have seen that some people have tried DIY sediment filters with backwash. How difficult is that to do?

Not sure if it is related, but I did find a 2' diameter sink hole about 100 yards from the house this weekend too. Inside the hole opens up to approx 3' diameter.

You can try a 10 micron multimedia backwash filter, or a 5 micron zeolite backwash filter.

Have emergency management for your county, come out and look at the sink hole. It could be from the aquafier.

You may have other issues going on. Have you tested the water? Do you drink it?

Thanks lawrosa

I have had the water tested and it was fine other than a slightly high pH and sediment. I do drink the water. It doesn't bother me.

Could it be that I need to flush the pressure tank?

Could you recommend a specific multimedia backwash filter or zeolite backwash filter?

I am definitely going to contact someone about the sink hole.

Hi.

I like this company. You can call them and ask them any questions you have. They have 1, 1.5, and 2, cu ft models.

10 micron Multimedia filter
1.0 Cubic Foot Multi-Media Filter*Multi-Media Filter from CAI Technologies
5 micron zeolite ( I heard zeolite is good, but may need additional maintainance)
1.0 Cubic Foot Zeolite Filter*Zeolite Water Filter from CAI Technologies

Just in case you want a RO for drinking, I have this unit. I like what this company offers, and have thier unit

Reverse Osmosis Systems - RO-90 Premium RO Water Filter System & Drinking Water Filtration For whole house | APEC Water

thanks again...

I am going to flush the pressure tank tonight just because it hasn't been done in a couple years.

I did contact the Emergency Management guy this morning. Our county is rural so he is only part time. I am waiting to hear back from him.
