kenmore captive air water tank with no pressure

i have kenmore captive air water tank and when that has no air pressure to it (used tire gage and even pressed on the valve to release air and nothing came out). this seems to be causing my problems of the pump kicking on every 30sec when running water. i do not have an owners manual but i read online that i can pump air into the tank to 2psi below the pump cut off. how do i know what my pump cut off is? it also said to cut power to the tank and have the water pressure completely drained down; would running water with the power cut drain the tank?

here is a picture of the only valve, the hose on the left is the line comming in, on the right is the line going out. i find it wierd that i dont really seem to have an actual pump(im use to seeing one on top of the tank). is that little box on the right some sort of pump? or is there a pump in the tank? anyway, they only valve there reads about 50psi, this must be the water pressure? or is this the cut off setting?

Did any water come out of the air valve?

You need to replace that gauge if its not working. Buy a new one and have it ready. If it is working you should see it move back and forth as the pimp cycles. The lowest psi is the kick on.

To get you by, turn off the power to the pump and open a faucet. When the water stops add about 20 psi of air to the tank. That should get you by until you get a gauge.

Close the faucet and turn on the power to see how it runs.

Let us know.

Also when you get the gauge do the same steps above. Power off, faucet open, then change the gauge. Then start up and watch the on and off pressures.

Once you have the off psi drain again and add the proper psi to the tank. 3 psi below cut in.

Hope this helps.
