Wel/lawn pump problems

Hello, my name is Richard, I'm having some problems with my old shallow well lawn pump. It prolly 10 years old, seen better days, but still worked decent after all this time.

More info:

Its a shallow well pump, jet (above ground), and its electric, thats all I know about it.

I've had it for 10+ years, always worked great, this year it might have been on its last leg, when the water starts to come out of the hose, it would be the rusty water, usually it would take like 1 minute for the water to be completely clear, no biggy. But last month, my niece accidentally turned off the valve instead of the power to the well pump, it ran for about 2 hours with the valves shut, no water coming out. When I got to the pump, the pump was running really hot, so I turned it off, thankfully the circuit didnt blow, because that would mean the pump is gone (burnt). Waited two days, turned it back on, no water, put an adapter that allowed my to hook up a hose to the well (to get water in the tank, trying to prime it). It rarely-never runs dry, even if it ran 5+hours, but gave it a couple more days-weeks, tried it again, nothing. The only water than comes out is most of the water that I put in from the hose/house water.

Here is a picture of it,

,

Thanks,
Richard.

Looks like it ran dead-headed, might have nuked the impellers. Or the suction line coming in heated up and melted just enough to get an air leak (very probable). Make sure you have good prime on the pump, install a plug at the top so you can fill the pump directly, don't rely on pressuring up the tank, sometimes air can be trapped and you have to prime from the pump first.

Yea, if I put my hand or thumb over one of the valve (two going to two valve, one large inlet, two small outlets), it feels like it has oressure, but you can feel the air come out when you take your thumb off. The part on the right side (white PVC with no valve on it) was how I tried to fill it up, with no luck.

What I'm told (and what I've read on these forums) is that it self primes, regardless, I still tried to prime it again, let the house water run for a good 5 minutes, what came out was prolyl have of the rusty water. I dont think I tried to fill it while the pump was on though, but I'll try it again today.

Thanks for your help.
