Above Ground Well Water Pump Not Coming On

hello~I have an OLD Above Ground Well Water Pump that is not Coming On all of a sudden- I have power to the switch and can see that the switch is set to come on-every minute or so, I can hear a buzzing sound inside the pump housing and it is VERY hot!!!

what can i do??? do i remove the housing??? How do I do that??? I removed the four retaining bolts but there appears to be something that goes from the housing to where the water comes up from. I assume I have to remove the housing from that somehow, but don't know how to do that. AND, what do I look for if I ever get this disassembled???

Help please!!! Thx!

Hi,

Not sure why there is a timer on your well pump. Could you give a make and model of the pump?

Sounds like the start capacitor possibly.

Remember your working around possibly high voltage. If unsure call a pro.

Find a name on the pump and post make and model if you can find.

If it is the capacitor it would be under the back plate.

It would seem you may be trying to remove the motor from the housing, which you do not need to do.

It could be something jamming the impeller also. With power off see if you can spin the motor somehow.

See if you can take pics and post to a place like photobucket, then past the link here.

pump is very old and rusty-no make or model-sorry

there is no "back plate" that i can see, so i have no idea what ur referring to.

i was trying to remove motor from the housing so that maybe i could see what is inside or "unjam" anything. motor was squealing up until today, but for many years.

i can not unjam anything from outside the housing. i tried to stick a screwdriver inside the air vents/slits but i have no idea what i am doing b/c i can not see what is inside.

thinking i may just run down to Home Depot and buy a new one unless u can help.

Yes better off replacing pump IMO. But dont buy from the home store. Try to find a pump store in your area.

What is the well used for?

You most likely want the same HP and GPM...etc
