pop-up drain emitter

I extended about 70' run of PVC underground for my sump pump discharge in the ground sloping away from the house. At the end of the run- my lawn levels out. I was thinking of putting a pop up drain and let the water just run off on the lawn since it's far from the house and will just flow to the street- Do I need any kind of catch basin?? Or can i install this pop up at the end of the PVC? Will the pressure of the water open the valve and is there any chance the water will back up toward the house?

What happens when it freezes? I installed some pop-ups for a couple roof downspouts last year. They work great in the warm weather, but wintertime is a problem. I mean, freezing is going to be a problem no matter what, but with that thing coming back to the surface, and under 30" of snow... you can see where I'm going with this!

I agree, I don't like the idea of that much water sitting in the pipe in a freezing climate. I've never used one for that reason... so I can't say for sure that it'll be an issue

Can you have it just drain just before your lawn levels out? Maybe add a few stones so it slows down the water and doesn't wash away any of the grass, but basically just let it drain out onto the lawn?
