The specifics:
Well drilled to 300 ft.
Water comes in at 172 ft
Total lift to house 310 ft with pump at 200 ft.
Distance to house from well 710 ft.
Grunfos 3 HP 230v just arrived
2" line from well to house installed.
2-2-2-4 aluminum wire in ditch.
6 inch hole.
Driller says we will get 40 gpm..
What about a sediment filter? plumbing parts, clamps, pitless, torque arrestor, tank, etc???
What else do I need to complete the job? I hear both use flex and schedule 80 threaded pipe.
I believe the pump pulls 17 amps, what submersible cable do I need in the well? 12-3 or 10-3 and where is the cheapest place to buy. There are not many wells drilled in the Lexington, KY area so the local help is limited. The electrician thinks that either 12 or 10 wire will do....

400 AMP service being installed. Closed loop geothermal. 80 gal water heater.
I know I need various parts to complete the system, but get various answers from all over the country.
The plumber is not sure either because they don't do wells here. Need to get this tackled in the next week or so.

2-2-2-4 aluminum wire in ditch.
A 17 amp load at almost 1000' ........ I'd use at least # 10 wire. You do not want a voltage drop to that pump.

Me....personally.....I'd look for a well company.

2-2-2-4 wire is from the well to the house. Aluminum to cut down the cost but keep the amps flowing.
Hard to find a well guy in the area. An irrigation company quoted me $6800 for parts and installation. That's why I am asking for help. My plumber and electrician will help too.

With the # 2 aluminum to the head of the well shaft you could probably use # 12.
The link has a wire size chart as well as wire for sale. Price look reasonable based on some of the prices I've seen at other sites.

Thanks, PJmax. I have seen this site. I see that 12-3 is good for 200 ft, but does the 2224 take up the slack to the house for the next 700 ft? I would guess so, but not sure.

Here is a calculator you can play with the numbers for wire size. I would go based on the starting current for your pump motor and don't forget to include the length of wire down the hole in the well and the distance inside the house to get to the panel. In your case it might add a couple hundred feet.

Unless I'm missing something, you could also run 2/2/4 (hot/hot/ground) in conduit if it's cheaper/easier. You don't need the neutral if all you're running is the 240v pump.
If you do run the 2/2/2/4, you may want to consider mounting a small outdoor rated subpanel at the well head so you could add a 120v receptacle for future use. (Though if it's way out of the way, it's probably not worth it).
