New pump problem

I installed a new 3 wire pump. I'm sure I installed everything correctly. I opened the outside faucet before I turned on the breaker. When I turn on the breaker, the meter spun real fast for about 30 seconds and the pressure switch clicked off (and the meter slowed down which tells me the pump turned itself off). No water. The pressure switch occasionally clicked on and off but no water. I tried for 30 minutes before tripping the breaker off for the evening. I thought their might have been (ice) blockage in one of the lines in the ground so I tried it again this morning. Same results. I did not prime the pump or the water lines. Should I pour water down the outside faucet or will the check valve not let it in? THANK YOU VERY MUCH for any advice you could offer.

You might need to describe your system a little better. What kind of pump are you using? Jet pump, submersible, piston? 3 wires doesn't really describe it to me, anyways. What kind of well or water source? How deep, how long, is the pipe running underground to the well or on top, is it heated?. Where is the check valve in relation to your pump, pressure tank, water source? Do you also have a foot valve?
