Hi ya'll,
I did a quick search and didn't come up with much so I figured I'd just ask right out the gate. I've got a sump pump that from the moment I've moved in has been sketchy. Some times it works other times I have to manually bump it, but here goes.
I'm not sure of the pump type as the previous installation has put it in a very awkward spot that requires damn near disassembling the basement to get to it but I will tell you what I've observed. It is a standard looking sump probably around 3000 gph, and it has an arm from the pump's switch to the tether. Now my float works great and the tether retracts and extends like it's supposed to but when the tether gets to the arm and pushes, it just seems like it doesn't have the "uumph" to activate it. I've remedied this problem for the time being with a coat hanger that I pull up on the arm with. When the water level drops the switch will almost always turn off at the right time to not air lock the pump (though I must admit some times it will stay on and I have to bump it with the hanger to turn it off).
Just that alone seems to me to be an issue rust or something inhibiting the arm from moving properly. I've tried getting as close as I can and blasting it with some WD-40 but to no avail. Figured I'd ask some people who are more knowledgeable than me on the topic before tearing down my basement to get to the pump! Thanks for any help!

The switch is shot/worn........
Common issue with that style pump....
Replace the switch... This answer is based on my experience with them...
I do not use that type.. If I do it is of the pedestal design only...

Guess I just needed that verified! Thanks still though!
I can definitely say that there are a lot of design particulars that I don't agree with the former owners of the house with, joys of home ownership lol
Thanks again!
