Hi all. I hope someone can help with my question. It's a bit of a story so please bear with me. My wife and I moved out to an acreage a few years ago and built a straw bale house on it. Before the house was built we had a well dug and a water hydrant put in so that we could plant trees and water them. We ran the submersible pump using a generator. There was a small pressure tank mounted just inside the well casing. Once we got the house built, the contractor who put the septic system in, also connected the well to our house water system. At the time it was late fall and getting cold and he disconnected the hydrant, moved the pressure tank into the house and connected the well to our system. He did not reconnect the hydrant because it was too cold (or so he said). Now we can't get him to come back and re-connect it. I am thinking about doing it myself. So my question: Can I connect the hydrant up to the water line that runs to the house (which is where the pressure tank is) or do I need a second pressure tank in the well for just the hydrant, somewhere in the line before the hydrant is connected to the house line? My well went dry this weekend and the guys that came to see if they could fix it extended the the pump 4 ft. deeper to see if they could get water. It didn't work and I still don't have water. When they put the well cap back on, the vent hole started sucking air. With the pump on and/or off, was the same. They said in 20 + years of doing this they had never seen this before. Does anyone know why this would happen?
