how do i separate my pump motor from my pump?
or is it one unit?
pump stopped working.
motor hums, but does not move.
I thought i could separate the motor from the pump, then try turning on the motor and manually turning the pump to see which one was not working. I am guessing my problem could be a shot motor or seized pump.
I cant get them to separate. so i thought, before i went for the torch, crowbar and sledge hammer, i would ask for help. just in case they are one unit.
I took the bolts out from the collar where the motor joins the pump, but it feels like a stud on the bottom, with no head. it feels like the collar has a shaft that fits into the pump, maybe for alignment. or, maybe i have to remove the pump and motor as one unit, flip it over, then remove the last bolt.

Both the pump and motor look like they've been beat hard and rusted. I'd say chunk both of them instead of spending too much trouble trying to diagnose them individually. If you do find the one bound component it's still tied to something that probably not too far from the grave.
If it's an emergency I'd hose the motor to pump shaft junction with penetrating oil. Start tapping and prying gently and work up in force I'm assuming they are rusted together pretty good and you might have a hard time separating them without damaging seals or bearings.
