Liberty pump installed to pump grey water to septic tank. Model 404, 115 volt,

Just had this pump installed to pump grey water from one side of the house to a septic tank and drainage field. It has a 6 foot rise of 2 inch pipe from the tank to the piping across the basement to the outlet in the garage. The pipe from the pump up to the elbow at the 6 foot point is leaking at the joiners and at the elbow.

Would there have to be a drying time for the glued joins of say 24 hrs. before this pump should be used? I get the feeling that the pressure of the water has affected these joins since there was no long drying time or could there be some other reason it is leaking? Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Glued joints like that would normally be fine in 15-30 min, though some people wait longer. You really don't have that much pressure in the pipe since it is open at one end.

Depending on the type of pipe, more likely primer wasn't used (if white PVC) or the glue was old or the wrong type (if black ABS).

Thanks for the info..the pipe is black ABS and I can see the glue used in the straight runs where it is not leaking is yellow. I did have plumber do this installation and I think he knew he was having a problem with this first section as he was reaplying glue there today at the elbow before he left...He is coming tomorrow to fix this and I will let you know how it goes. We had waited the normal 15 to 30 so maybe we will give it more time the second time around.

Well the plumber was back and as you both have stated he said it should have been leak free. He redid the first section from the pump up to the elbow and said was ok now. Not so as there is a leak from a joiner he put in before the elbow!! There is pressure on this section from a cold water copper water pipe that runs against where he has put this black abs pipe. I wonder about that and the fact that it happened on friday the 13th....he's getting old like a lot of us!!!??? I wonder if he will come back? That black stretchy plumbers tape may do the trick?

Dabbing more glue around the edge after a leak is a hit or miss proposition.

A correctly made joint has to have both surfaces cleaned and then be coated with glue prior to assembly.
