When my pump first kicks on, the pressure rapidly fluctuates causing the pressure switch to engage/disengage repeatedly. The fluctuations are rapid enough that it appears that the pump stays on, and is not switching off and on with the pressure switch. After 1 to 10 seconds, the pressure settles, you can also dampen the impact by manually holding the pressure switch diaphram to stop the fluctuations. I thought I might have a bad pressure switch, so last night I changed it out with a brand new one, which is exhibiting the same behavior. My configuration has emergency relief valve at the point where it comes out of the well casing, followed by a check-valve where the pressure switch is mounted on a 1/4" nipple, feeding into a "T", which has a pressure gauge on one side and the pressure switch on the other. After that the water passes through a centrifugal sand filter and then to the bladder tank. I have considered replacing or removing the check-valve, as that could be malfunctioning and/or leaking through, as there should be a check-valve at/in the pump as well. However, I am not sure if this is the issue. I have also thought about moving the pressure switch to the discharge side of the sand filter (as there is low liklihood of a clog that would result in over pressurizing the pipe from the well to the filter) to see if that would dampen the fluctuation, however, I don't believe that this would really address the root cause, especially considering I have owned the house for 14 years, and the pump has had the same piping configuration for the whole period of ownership. I am looking for any thoughts or ideas on what to try or what not to try to solve the issue as I am concerned that there is a larger issue looming if I do not address the root cause. Thanks.

I have an old cottage with a shallow well and we have been experiencing some issues with our water. Lately we've noticed that the cold water has air bubbles in it so the water looks almost white and the hot will spit out of the faucet. We initially thought that the issue was air in the hot water heater so we used the pressure release valve to get it out, but still no luck. The check valve on my pump is over 10 years old so I'm not sure if that's bad or there's another issue. The other thing we noticed is that the pump is a 30/50 but it's set at about 35/70. The air pressure in the tank is at 35 psi. Any help would be much appreciated!
