I'm a pretty good DIYer, but my knowledge on submersible wells is limited, so bear with me. The house was built in 1987 and the well was used for about 15 years before hooking up to a public water utility and keeping the well for outdoor use only. I bought the house 11 years ago so don't know much about it's history. Don't know the depth, brand, diameter, etc. It is 240 volt and the tank is a Well-X-trol that stands about 4' high. I installed a new 20-40# switch and gauge, then charged the empty tank to 18# of air. None of this has changed my recent problem of the pump shutting off at 40# and my gauge wrapping all the way around to hitting the back side of the peg within 1 to 2 seconds of pump shutoff. It is installed in typical fashion of well > check valve > gauge > tank > pressure switch > outside spigot. The only other issue of note is under steady usage the pump will cycle off for 5 to 15 minutes, so I try to moderate the usage to avoid that, allowing it to cycle on the pressure switch. I assume it is overheating and then cooling back down. I don't use it enough to justify replacing the pump, but was hoping I could still get some free water as long as I don't overwork it. We are adding a new bathroom/toilet in basement. Our sewage is above basement floor level so we are told that we need to add sump pump for bathroom/toilet in basement. Need help in choosing the best pump/tank available in market. there will be 4 people constantly using the bathroom/toilet so i feel it will be heavy usage. What I am worried is toilet tissue and hair and other things will go through bathroom to sump pump and then to drainage line. What kind of pump and tank should i consider? Please advise.
