....how to take care of a well system..
I know very little about the well system. It hasn't been serviced at all in 4 or 5 years. We are on well water and water is the only thing I drink through my RO system that now refuses to work at this point. I troubleshot my RO problem till I found that junk in the water at the line that starts feeding the RO has something in it that keeps blocking my RO. I understand since I know very little about the water softener part that it may a problem and am asking if if it would be to much for a forum like this one to teach me.
I would be very grateful for help but I also understand if it would be to much.
I looked at the tag on my tank and it says Pentair Water Treatment 5600SE. I am told we cant be sure this unit is working. This is what I would like to learn first since I think it may be the most important thing. I see lights on and numbers if this means anything.
In service is lit up
Flow is lit up
the number is 210

I forgot the important detail. The buttons are missing on the Pentair Water Treatment 5600SE. I am unsure of where they went. I see no way to press the buttons. I tried to post a photo earlier and it wont give me the button to post it.
Thanks Yadda Yadda I have been using the water filtered through the fridge but I miss the RO water.

The Pentair Water Treatment 5600SE is a water softener only.
Is that what you need help with ?
Is this the unit that hasn't been serviced in 4-5 years ?
The well supplies the water softener which supplies your RO system.
Do you have any running water in the house ?
If you don't have any water then we are going to need some pictures of your well tank, pump and plumbing..... http://www.doityourself.com/forum/el...-pictures.html

The reason the person stopped servicing our well system is because he thought the Pentair Water Treatment 5600SE was not working. I think this is a good place to start, since that is what seemed to have stopped it. (Just a guess on my uneducated part) There has been no salt added in 4 or 5 years and it has been doing what it is doing today for the 4 or 5 years. We have water in the house that has never stopped.
I found my picture I wanted uploaded and got it all ready but I don't see the upload file(s) button on my end.

Oh you got it up here , good job! I guess my first question is do I need to replace this or is there a way to replace the buttons? There seems to be no way to use the buttons. I did use Google to find a front panel assembly (60755) and came up empty handed.

That gives me an error message saying "uploading of file failed". But that's OK I know how to do it by way of photo bucket now.
You are right that doesn't look, smell or taste like a button!

Would this be the place to start to try to get my Well System back up and running?
I am thinking I may not be able to find a replacement part to fix my missing buttons. So this unit may need a replacement. If I replace this part then would I need to do anything with the resin tank below it and will all parts go together or do I have to find one that will go with my resin tank?
Since we are on a budget I would rather find the part and fix this one since it appears to me to be working.

Your well is ok it's your water softener that needs servicing. I don't work on them and I've been looking for a replacement for your control head and haven't found one yet.

Yes I noticed my post got moved so I went to the sticky up top and found what info was wanted on this side. I spent a few days looking for a part for it and came up empty. I am thinking we may have to buy a new one.

What about the tanks?
A few weeks ago I went out and cleaned the aerator tank and the salt tank. The salt tank was only half full of water and salt was still in it from who knows how long ago. I dumped the water out and cleaned that out also. I left the salt in it that was already in there. Does this normal only get half full? I also changed the filter in the whole house filter. Do I need to add anything to the aerator tank like chlorine once a month or something?

notabec 123.....guess I am just a worry wort, but it sounds like you are drinking your well water thru the refrigerator ice maker filter. Charcoal?
You never mentioned taking your water sample to a certified testing lab. Have you done this?

I have not had testing done on our water. I do drink it from the filtered water in the fridge and through the RO system. Its just that the RO system quit working even though I changed everything that can be changed, still no water. I just bought a new Ro system and I plan to replace that today. My broken RO caused me to find out what was going on outside. The person responsible for taking care of the well system became sick (not water related) and un able to take care of the well system. So I want to learn how to take care of it. I am told that the "resin tank and head were given to him and he was never sure it worked. I guess after hearing stories about bottled water that I trust our water more than bottled water.

There is good bottled water from a trusted supplier/spring.....and bad tap, treated water from a shaky source, labeled spring water. You could use distilled water for cooking.
I was concerned that bacteria, mold or whatever was in your neglected equipment. Guess not, if you have no symptoms. You need a water lab test for organic and inorganic substances sooner or later.
I would think you should spend the $$ for a well company service call and have him do what he thinks necessary...or ask a thousand questions and you can do what he says.
Same for a water treatment company....if the well company does not do this type of work.

The system was cleaned out by me about a month ago. I plan to keep it up if I can find directions on how to do that. While I am trying to figure out if the softener is working. From what I understand if the water is too hard you wont get soap to lather. We have never had a soap issue.
The softener itself is over $1000 if I can find out what part is bad and replace just that part. Any ways I think I found the water company that will help answer my questions and I will buy what ever parts necessary from him.
At this time I don't have the hundreds of dollars for water testing. Especially if I have to buy a softener. I would love to test the water (:
I have a TDS tester that shows:
water from the tap is 598
Fridge water is 482
RO I installed today is 075
I add minerals back into my RO water. I eat a clean diet and nothing with a label. Including bottled water. I am good with my RO water working again.
