well pump stop problem
Hi
I just bought house with well system. House was foreclosure and nobody live there for 3 years also it was winterize. I want to start water system but pipe was disconnect and there was no pressure switch. I run new pipes to pressure switch and pressure gauge and put new pressure gauge and switch 20-40. Everything starts and work good and its pump water just when pressure comes to 40 and pressure switch should stop pump it look like it keep turning it off and wright away on again. At the beginning it was only 2-3 on and off and then finally off then when ]i use water and pressure drop down pump turns on and pump water. Sometimes it turn off at first time sometimes after 3-5 on and off's. After 3 day it starts to be worse. its constantly do on and off after it reach 40psi. I thought pressure switch is bad so i exchange it for brand new but this time i use 30-50. It's the same problem. I check pressure tank and i have air. Please help me if you have idea what it can be. Thanks

Welcome to the forums.
Your pump is short cycling. You may have an air charge issue with the tank but your problem sounds like you have a leak. Your pump should start up.... fill the system water and shutoff. The pressure gauge should stay right where it is. If it starts immediately dropping back down you have a water leak.
Start by checking the pressure in your tank. The link below has detailed instructions based on your type of tank.

thanks for replay. Tomorrow i will check pressure in my tank. I think i dont have leak because my gauge stays wright before 50 psi after pump finally turn off. Just want to make it clear is not like my pump go on and of and then pressure drot and it go on again, my pump starts build pressure ant then looks like it want to stop but pressure switch go on and off imminently and don want to stop until i cut power and then it holds pressure in system. Before on another house i have broken bladder and tank full of water and system works good I mean pump starts ans stops just nice only think was because of missing air it couldnt keep pressure when you use water so pump go on wright away when you open water, but it stops smooth. I will check my tank and let you know. thanks

An additional problem that just occurred to me is to check the pipe that connects the pressure switch. If that pipe is blocked the pressure switch switch can't read the true pressure and could stutter like that.

I check and pressure in tank was ok but i took a better look to whats going on and i have video if you want to see but its like when i have 0 psi and i start pump pressure on gauge goes up and it go up to 60 and then statrs to do this on and off when i turn power off gauge shows little less then 50. pressure switch i have is 30-50 so now if i turn power on pump should be off until pressure drops under 30 but is not, it starts pump at any pressure ride away when in turn power on. I open pressure switch and unbolt little the adjustment bolt number 1 the bigger one that's the one which decide when pump should goes on. Its helps for now buy i didnt have time to tested it for longer time i will try tomorrow and i will let you know. Maybe i should get different pressure switch? maybe 40-60 of com back to 20-40. let me know what you think.

A video would help or even a few pictures of your setup. http://www.doityourself.com/forum/el...rt-images.html
When the system is at 0psi and you turn the pump on.... the pressure should rise slowly as the plumbing system and the tank start to refill with water. If the pressure goes right to 60psi from 0psi then something is blocked or a valve is turned off.
