Well and water system maintenance
I have a well for house water. No idea how deep. The well head is actually in my garage accessible by a lid in the floor. I have the pressure tank and pump in my basement. It then goes to a water softener and distributes thru the house via copper pipe and electric hw heater. Water tastes good and tests good. No smell at all. If qny complaint, i get a little iron build-up over time in my toilets and calcium buildup at all water outlets like sinks. I also noticed, when i close ball valves, it soulds like it is grinding calcium up; not a smooth feeling. Anyways, i was just wondering what maintenance should be done to my well system? Do i ever have to do anything to home piping and ball valves? I was thinking of maybe adding an incomming filter before my pressure tank. Looking for any advice that can be provided for wells.

Much of the calcium and iron are in solution and the filter won't take it out. Have the water tested after the softener and see if it is working properly. The softener should be taking out the calcium carbonate and if the proper solution is added it should take out the iron.
