Sump pump drain frequently

Hello all, my sump pump has been pumping approx. every 15 minutes for the last week or so.i live in New Jersey where we have had a severe winter. The temperatures have been in the teens and lower most of the month. There is water trickling in from small holes in the side wall of the sump pump pit. I have checked for leaks in the house and there are none that I can see. There I still a lot of snow all around the house. Has anyone else every seen this ? The sump pump and interior French drain was put in about 2 years ago so I don't have much experience with them. I did have a plumber friend of mine come over and take a look and he said that its ground water seeping. But I just wanted to get other opinions? Anyone else every experience this?

Sounds like it's performing the exact function for which it was installed.

Welcome to the forums.

We've had a few days of melting here in NJ. That sounds perfectly normal. Towards the end of the week coming up that will probably increase with all the rain that is supposedly going to hit us.

It's good to know as much as you can about it.

Here's something for you to try. Unplug the pump. See if the pit will overflow. Don't let it but that shows you if your pump fails what would happen.
