2 pressure tanks

I would like to use 2 pressure tanks on my well. I have 2 20 gallon tanks, one has a bladder second was a bladder tank but bladder burst. I know i can run 2 but just wonder in you put the tank without the bladder infront of the tank with a bladder or is it the other way.
Thanks

It doesn't matter as the pressure will be the same at both tanks either way. But as long as you are fussing with all this, why not replace the tank with the ruptured bladder....that way you don't have to fuss with it every time it gets waterlogged.

Thanks CarbideTipped. I just bought the new tank with the bladder to replace the ruptured one. Was just going to use the old as a holding tank so that the pump wouldn't cycle as much. Was looking to recycle the old tank as I just put all new parts on my well from foot value up to the house.

If the bladder has ruptured, a flap of bladder might cover the outlet hole prematurely, causing the outflow to stop before the pressure in the rest of the system drops and restarts the pump. Without such a premature flow stoppage, which cannot be predicted, maximum water in and out during any given pump cycle is had when the "holding tank" is emptied of water and then prepressurized to the usual 2 PSI below pump start pressure in the same manner as for the new pressure tank next to it.

If you have a holding tank nearly full with water next to the pressure tank, then little or no water will come out of the holding tank during each pump cycle.

Adding more pressure tanks to a well system will not degrade the operation.

I took the old bladder out of the tank. Filled it with air then water but did not find where it ruptured. But it was losing air pressure which started me on the journey of fixing the problem. When i replace the old tank with a new I kept finding issues with the system. In the end I have had to replace everything. Everything is working good just trying to have the system last longer. Thank you for the advice.

If the tank leaks to the outside (use soapy water to detect an air leak or use toilet paper to detect a water leak) then the tank has no further socially redeeming value and may be discarded (or recycled as scrap metal) right away. Did you cause a leak while removing the bladder?

A non-bladder tank will work reliably but will need to have more air added periodically to replace that absorbed by the water. Various analog (read: imprecise) subsystems have been invented to automatically add air and usually add slightly more than needed and the non-bladder tank will automatically repressurize correctly with at most in an occasional puff of air from a faucet.

Or you could add more air to a non-bladder tank periodically and manually and randomly. You can leave the system on and pressurized while doing this but you will have to guess how much air without measuring and the 2 PSI less than pump turn on measurement process cannot be used.

It was leaking at the beginning of this project. Started with the tank and as I went along the can of worms got bigger. I judt did another test on the old bladder and it does have a small hole in it will be using the tank just as a holding tank.

I know it will be time consuming having to keep putting air in the tank. Thank you so much for the help AllanJ you were a big help.
