Water well problems - control panel?

Hi,

Last Sunday our well stopped working. I went out to investigate and if the pressure switch is manually engaged, a rapid clicking noise can be heard coming from the control box. The control box is fairly new and the power coming to it tested fine. I had a brand new pressure switch so I replaced that and same symptoms occurred. Any ideas?

Thanks

Is it a submersible or jet pump? What's the make and model of the control box?

The clicking you hear is the start relay in the control box trying to start the pump.

First thing you should do is verify that you have 240 volts to the pressure switch and from there to the control box.

If that checks out you have a problem with the pump or the wiring to the pump.

Next step would be to ring out the wiring to the well head to rule out a problem with the underground wiring. If the wiring checks out OK then I'm afraid you'll need to have the pump pulled and checked.

You'll need a multi-meter to do the above testing.

Water is now back on. It ended up being exposed wires near the pump. Though the pump was okay, one of the bearings was greatly worn. So the pump, all wiring, control box and well cap got replaced.
