Need help with two wire pump, control box

I had this all typed before but I hit the wrong button. I have a 230v 1/2hp two wire submersible pump. I'm replacing the control box and the secondary fuse-able power shut off I need between the maine panel and the control box. My problem is I can only find a 1/2hp 230v control box for three wire pumps. But the Lowe's guy told me that this three wire box is the replacement and should be used for my pump.

The wire that comes from my panel is a 14/2 wire. It has a white and a black and a copper ground that was not hooked up to anything, I guess because it is grounded through the main panel?? Anyway, the new control box seems to have red and yellow wires and a bunch of terminals. Can this control box be used with my two wire Pump? I hope I don't sound like a jack ass.

Welcome to the forums.

The Lowe's guys sometimes have limited knowledge.

You have a two wire submersible pump. A two wire pump is completely self contained and does not need an external control or switching box.

Since the pump is away from the main panel you do need a service disconnect. If the breaker is sized correctly for the pump then you can use an unfused disconnect like which is used for an A/C condensor.

Your pump area is fed with a 14-2 w/ground cable. The ground should be connected to any metal electrical boxes or connected devices. Technically your submersible pump should be grounded but I've seen many that are not.

If you have some type of "control" there that you are trying to replace.... post a picture of it here so we can see it. http://www.doityourself.com/forum/el...-pictures.html
