Does a submersible pump need check valve for 50' well 2' round
I have 2' round 60' deep well and plan on installing a submersible pump 50' down. Has anyone used a deep well pump in a shallow well and do I need a check valve for 50' of head.

Yes, most/all submersible pumps have built in check valves. Make sure you choose an appropriate pump, one designed for shallower depths. A low horsepower motor with the proper pump will perform quite well at that depth.
I have submersible pumps in several of my rental houses with shallower wells. I prefer them over deep well jet pumps because they don't have priming issues and there is no venturi to clog.
