Low to no water pressure

Hello all. I have a deep well. I can hear the well pump running when I put my ear to the well cap. I have little to no water pressure. I closed the valve to the house water line and opened the drain valve at the pressure tank. Very little, rusty water at first, spitting, then no water. The pressure gauge reads 2.5.
I read on line to tap the pipe going to the pressure switch and watch for sparks. I did that and there were sparks. I have no idea if the sparks are a good thing or not.
If the problem is in the pressure tank, would there be water coming out of the drain valve if the well pump us running?
Hopefully someone has some ideas that can help
Thank you, Brenda

You would "tap" the pressure switch if the pump was not running, Your pump is running... therefore the pressure switch is calling for water and supplying power.

Your problem is down at the pump. Possibly low water level in the well or worn out pump.
is this a sudden problem ?

Yes it was all of a sudden. When I turn the power on to the pump, I can hear water rush into the pressure tank

You hear water rush into the tank but it only gets to several PSI ?
That sounds like a pump problem.

Yes, I hear water coming in the line and the gauge gets a little over 2.5 (25 psi)

Ok.... I thought it was 2.5psi. So the system gets up to 25psi and then what happens..... the pump continues to run but the pressure doesn't increase ? It's good to have the line to house closed off during this test as it eliminates anything using water in the house during recharge,

The gauge on the tank is strange. The 2.5 is 25 psi.
Pressure goes up a very tiny bit. When I open the drain valve on the tank very little water comes out. What does come out looks rusty and the water spits and spudders then stops, the entire time the well pump is running

You could post a few pictures of your setup there in case I'm missing something but it sounds like the pump will need to be serviced. I know....not a particularly happy thought.
