Basement Sump Pump Size

I had a Zoeller 1/3 hp in my house and See that Wayne pump I am looking at has a .5 and a 3/4 hp and the difference is only 10.00. If the original pump was only 1/3 hp..is a big jump to 3/4 too much?

Usually bigger is better..... but not always. A 3/4 pump will pump more water and empty the pit out quicker. It may short cycle.

If the 1/3 hp performed ok then a move up to 1/2 hp should be ok too.

@tonydiato,

If money is not an issue, you may consider getting the most powerful one you can afford. However, one thing you have to double-check is the size of the discharge line. If the pump you purchase can only use 2" discharge line, then you should not use it on a discharge line with 1.5".

Best
