4" pvc access pipe thinner than schedule 40

I wish to replace the inspection pipe believed to be on the septic distribution box, as the current one terminates below grade and I'd like to make it flush with the surface for easier access.

So... I purchased a new section of pipe and a cap, schedule 40. Low and behold, my existing pipe is smaller, having a thinner wall than the new one, like a schedule 30 or 20 if there is such a thing. Schedule 40 is the thinnest Mcnards had. The two pipes rising from the tank are the thin wall variety as well.

Old = 4 3/16" OD New = 4 1/2" OD

An internet search was not much help.

This system was installed in 1986; perhaps it has fallen out of favor since then? Ideas?

I don't know the proper name for the pipe you are looking for but it's often used with septic tanks. Our local Lowes stores sells it so I'm sure if you take your wrong size pipe back and ask - they'll find you the right one. It uses it's own fittings also.

It might be this pipe - https://www.lowes.com/pd/4-in-x-10-f...C-Pipe/3133147

Look for drainage pipe, it is the thinner stuff. I use it for dust collection system.

Thanks guys for the help

I went to Menards' website and found it using the new search criteria; my local store has 85 of them. Evidently they don't keep it in the same section as the 40/80 stuff and, according to my wife, I didn't look very hard.

At our local Lowes it's stocked on the very last aisle of plumbing.
