Low Water Pressure, Private Well

Ok, had to have a new pump put in less than a year ago, new Pressure switch last month. When I use the yard hydrant, hooked directly to the well and pressure tank, pressure is great. But, pressure in the house is leaving a lot to be desired. Very low. I'm thinking there may be some scale build up between the well and the house. Can anyone tell me a way to remove this scale? New piping is out of the question, due to cost. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forums.

If you have iron or steel pipe underground....... there really is no way to clean it. Any type of cleaning could rupture a thin spot. Maybe the problem is the plumbing in the house. Is it an old house with iron/steel piping ?

What's did you install for a new Pressure Switch last month; 20/40; 30/50 40/60 or a higher PSI ?

House is a manufactured home from 1996, plastic pipes. Well is an older pit design, with a pressure tank in the pit, probably from the 1970s or so. I do know the old pump was installed in 2002, and was 15 years old when it went south. The pressure switch is a 40/60, according to the paperwork supplied by the well service that installed it. Like I said, the pressure at the well, via a field hydrant, is perfect, at the house, about 75 to 100 feet away, not so great.

And the Pressure Tank and Pressure Switch are located in the house . . . . or OUTSIDE near the Well's Hydrant ?

They are located in the pit, at the well.

I have a well pit also but my tank/switch is in the basement. I think it’s possible you could have a leak between the well pit and the house. Hopefully not. But since the tank/switch/gauge are remote from the house the pump could be coming ON/OFF frequently because of the leak and you might not know it, and if the leak is at the right spot you may not see water on the ground surface.

If the pipe from the well pit to the house is Black poly or PVC I don’t think you would see any kind of scale buildup in those pipes. But I could be wrong, I’m no expert. If the pipes in the house are PEX or CPVC I don’t think you would see a buildup there either. Not 100% sure.

Where is your shut-off valve for the house? Do you have an outside hose bib at the house?
