OSSF Return Line

Hi,

I just realized that the return line on my OSSF was closed.

I opened the maintenance box in the ground next to the final stage of the system. It has the effluent filter on the PVC pipe going out and then there is another pipe coming through the box with a valve. I'm assuming this is the return line. The valve was closed.

Is that a problem? Which way is it supposed to be?

Thanks,
Sal

There is no return line (thank goodness- lol). The effluent leaves the tank and goes into a field. You are probably looking at a distribution box.

It all depends on your system. Do you have any documentation for your system? The "another pipe" you mentioned, where does it connect?

The system has a return line as shown in the technical drawings. I just see the other pipe running through the box that has the filter on the effluent pipe and assumed that it was the return line. It appears to run back to the 1st stage of the system (the one with raw sewerage).

Just wasn't sure if it was supposed to be opened or closed.

Maybe it is only supposed to be open when flushing the drip field?

Remember that none of us can see the drawings you mention...
