Unidentified object on well side of pressure tank

Unidentified object on well side of pressure tank
We have a well and pressure tank in the crawl of our new (to us) home. Can anyone tell me what this object is that is attached to the well line coming to the pressure tank? I do not know its function, whether it is a flow regulator, pressure regulator, ect. I has marking on it in degrees which seem a bit odd to me.

It is a colloidalizing venturi valve and is used in an iron removal system. It allows a metered amount of air to enter the water flow thru a venturi. The link below explains the system further.
Look down to..... "The venturi system"
If you no longer have an iron removal system in place..... you can remove that valve and replace with a coupling. That valve heavily restricts water flow.

Thank you for the reply. I will look into this deeper. Thank you for the link and the information. Currently there is nothing else hooked to this valve. There is the union that you see in the picture on either side of the dial and this flows directly to the pressure tank about 6 feet away. There is a capped off connection on the side that could have possibly connected to a removal tank as in the info you provided. The pump is running way more often than I think it should. I have checked the pressure in the bladder tank with pump off and the water lines bled off. The pressure switch is a 40-60 switch and it is cutting in at 32 and turning off at 54. I feel that it should cut in a 38 and off at 58. This valve may be limiting things a bit. I may try to take if off and see how the system performs prior to adding any air. Thank you.

32 on and 54 off is ok for a 40/60 pressure switch.
You can increase both pressures at the same time by turning down the larger nut slightly.
Try half a turn at a time. Don't change the smaller adjuster.
That venturi valve may slow down water flow but it won't affect the starting/stopping pressures.
The air in the tank should also be set a few pounds under turn on pressure. So if you readjust the switch you will need to increase the amount of air in the tank.
The pressure tank is only there to slow down the pump cycling. It will do nothing as far as system water pressure.

Thank you for your help. In your attachment it said that the device is also called a Micronizer. I searched Micronizer and found the exact model https://www.aquascience.net/download...structions.pdf
I am going to remove it in the next day or two to see if that helps at all with the pump run time. I do not expect it to really but I wanted to understand what all as a system that I was looking at. My pump is currently cycling about every 10-12 seconds and that should be more like 45-50 seconds. Got some searching to do.
