Septic tank riser leak

My 5 tall septic tank riser leaks at the base and ground water seeps in to my tank. What is best way to seal off without digging all out

Is the riser cement or plastic.

They are just set into a lip on the tank with a bed of mortar around the joint, going to have to dig it up, chip away all the old mortar, clean, clean, clean, then reseal!

The plastic ones seem worse since they flex a bit more!

Never enter the riser or tank!!!

The only way to seal is to dig out the riser. Many risers use a gooey bitumen sealant while others are mortared in place. In either case you need to dig down so the riser can be removed or at least lifted. Clean the bottom of the riser and where it meets the tank. Then apply sealant and re-seat the riser.
