Problem after shocking my well.

New member here in need of some quick advice. We're in the process of selling our home and needed to have our well shocked after the water test. We hired a professional to do it last Tuesday as I have never shocked a well before and wasn't going to make my first attempt while selling a home. Technician showed up, dropped chlorine tablets down the well, ran a bunch a water down the well shaft. He left us was some verbal instructions concerning opening up all of the faucets to make sure the chlorine makes it into the plumbing. As soon as I turned on the cold water to the bath tub, a bunch of sediment shot out. I mean a lot of sediment. Water pressure dropped pretty significantly at that particular faucet. In fact, sediment pretty came out at every fixture. Little black sandy granules. I've run the water off for hours on end over the past week., but still get some of the same sediment. I went out to look things over where the well enters the house and noticed the water softener was not bypassed. The technician never even went into the room that house our systems when he shocked the system. I've been researching how to shock a well now on my own and read that before shocking a well, all water softeners, filters, etc.. should be bypassed. Ours weren't and I am wondering if this is why I'm getting this material all through the house now. When I run water to my one outside hose bib, which doesn't pass through the water softener, I get no sediment at all. Am I wrong in thinking that the technician screwed up and may have cause this issue? I'm placing a call to the company on Monday. Any input would be appreciated.

Do you have a whole house filter? Was it in bypass when the well was shocked?

ran a bunch a water down the well shaft
So all that debri that was in the well is now at the bottom and the pump is bringing it into the house.

Eventually it will settle and all the krap in the pipes and water softener will clear up!

Not a big deal!

I would bypass all filters and run the water and see what happens. If your water is clear when you bypass the filters, as it is now from your outdoor hose bib, then you know the chlorine has affected the material (or something is going on) inside your filters. If you have multiple filters turn on one at a time and run the water test until you start to see the sediment. Then you will know which filter is causing the problem.

But I would double check first and make sure the water really is OK at that outside hose bib which precedes the filters.

You may notice that the aerator screens on the kitchen and bathroom faucets clogging. I would hold off using the dishwasher and clothes washer until you get the water cleared up and it wouldn't hurt to check their inlet screens for debris.

Chlorine does not effect filters, in fact the filters would be doing their job by filtering out the debris.

Chlorine does not harm a water softner, but it does shorten the life of the resin bed, again all the debris from the well is now in the bed.

You just need to allow the material to settle and or be flushed out of the system!

It will clear up eventually!

Should I manually back flush the water softener a few times rather than sending sediment further into the house from the resin bed?

Been trying to run the sediment off like crazy and I'm still getting small amounts of sediment. Water is crystal clear, just small particles of gritty material, some of which almost looks shiny. I'm thinking I may need to have a spin down sediment filter installed at this point. Thoughts?

Very common to have whole house filters, I have 2 on my system. Google big blue filters!
