Sump Pump Identification
I think this is my sump pump. It has an electrical connection but no way to turn it on/off.
I am not sure if it even works?

Yessir..... that is a sump pump.
It has two cords there...... one is the float switch and plugs into the receptacle first.
Then the pump plugs into the float switch.
You can plug the pump directly into the receptacle to test it.
There is a plastic float hanging where it says float. If the pump is pushed to close to the side wall.... the float gets bound and cannot move freely or float. The float must move freely.

Fellow Jerseyian PJMax speaks Shawn. Thank you. It's a disgusting water pit down there with a bit of debris. I plugged in the pump directly and it works as expected. I assume I need to move the debris so I'll use the pump to get as much water as possible and use some gloves to remove any obvious debris. Aside from moving the float towards the middle which I will try a bit later today -- any other maintenance I should do to make sure it starts working as expected?

Sump pits can get slimy.
After cleaning..... just make sure the float can move freely and float. It would be great to fill the pit with water to test the float but depending on your foundation.... that could mean a lot of water. Too much water to fill.

It's nasty. I removed some snot and left the rest. If you move the float up, the pump kicks on so it was probably just pinched against the side not allowing it to move up. Thanks for the help.
